Yoyo Lin Han's work explores transformation, perception, the bonds of blood and culture and their changes, as well as the transformation of interpersonal relationship concepts.

Yoyo Lin Han’s creative practice is rooted in the layered trajectories of her life—from her origins as a fashion designer, through a period in business, to her eventual return to art as a homecoming to her authentic self. This non-linear path, shaped by societal refinement and deliberate self-choice, is not a gap in her artistic career but the very soil from which her work draws its depth: every shift in identity, every collision of cultural perspectives, and every reevaluation of her stance has evolved into a multifaceted language in her art.

Central to Lin Han’s practice is the theme of “layering”—a concept that manifests as a visual and conceptual thread woven through her oil paintings, textile installations, and art installations. It is a reflection of her own journey: the layering of Eastern roots and Western educational/life experiences, which fuels her reflections on contemporary societal, national, and cultural conflicts; the layering of gendered identities, tracing her evolution from feeling confined by her female identity to understanding, embracing, and ultimately celebrating it; and the layering of life’s “in-between states”—the endless pursuit of “success” that often unfolds not as a destination, but as a process of shifting positions and overlapping moments.

Her work is defined by striking visual tension, with women as its core subject. Bold, unapologetic color palettes, overlapping identity codes, distorted perspectives, and close-up details converge to construct dreamlike, non-realistic scenes—stages glowing with prosperity, fragments of fabric piled like memories—each serving as a visual deconstruction of self and society. She rejects singular mediums, instead treating oil paint, textiles, and installation as equal “translators” for her ideas: just as fabric is stitched from countless threads, her reflections on culture, gender, and history are woven into works that resist simplification.

For Lin Han, art is not a static expression but a continuous act of self-inquiry and societal dialogue. Her pieces do not offer answers; instead, they invite viewers to confront the layers within themselves—the overlapping of who they are, where they come from, and what they believe. In this way, her work fulfills her artistic mission: to turn the intangible—confusion, reflection, joy, belonging—into something tangible, something that resonates with the universal experience of being “layered” beings.
